Description:
The designs for seashell vases that came into fashion at the end of the 19th century can be dated from 1897 in the design drawings of Johann Loetz Witwe. Many designs are executed in Candia or Crete glass and are shaped in sea shells or snails which are lying or standing on a free-formed foot.
This seashell vase is of a later date and can be dated to 1907. The design drawing is included in the literature as Series II Production number 5169. The design of this vase is extraordinary and can be fully classified as art glass. The design of the cuppa and foot shows a complex design that could only be made by a glass master. The cuppa is individually blown in Metallin glass and then hot assembled in the octopus free-formed foot with maritime decoration in Candia glass with a Silberiris iridescence.
