Describtion:
Charles Schneider was born on February 23, 1881 in Château-Thierry and died in Épinay-sur-Seine on January 7, 1953. Schneider is a student of Jean Daum from Nancy and founded his own glass workshop with his brother Ernest Schneider in 1913 in Épinay -sur-Seine. His oeuvre is known for his glass production during the Art Deco period under the names Schneider, Le Verre Français and Charder.
After the German occupation during the 1st World War, Verreries Schneider restarts its production with characteristic designs in the Art Deco style.
A very nice example of their oeuvre is this fairly rare vase that was produced under the line “Filetés” from the year 1921. The vase is blown in a contrasting color composition, which enhances the elegant shape. It can be said that in the early 1920s this design and use of colors must have been quite avant-garde. Schneider’s inspiration is also regularly attributed to the liquor Absinthe, which is referred as the “green fairy”.
The vase is signed at the side of the base in slightly worn gold paint with “Schneider”.
