Camille Fauré – Enameled Vase with Wildflowers

This exceptional vase, designed by the renowned French artist Camille Fauré, is a masterpiece of enamel art. The decoration consists of a colorful palette of wildflowers, meticulously and precisely applied in pâte-sur-pâte enamel. The wildflowers create a vibrant and refined relief, adding not only visual but also tactile depth to the piece. The base of the vase is made of copper, fully enameled on both the interior and exterior. This double enameling was essential to prevent tension and possible warping during the firing process, a technical detail that highlights the expertise and innovation of Camille Fauré’s workshop.

About Camille Fauré (1874–1956)

Camille Fauré was one of the most respected enamel artists of the Art Deco period, active in the famous enamel city of Limoges, France. His workshop produced a wide range of decorative objects, including vases, bowls, and lamps, characterized by their bold colors and sophisticated designs. Fauré continually experimented with new techniques, enhancing the aesthetic potential of enamel work, making his pieces some of the most sought-after collectibles of his time.

The Enameling Technique in Limoges

Limoges has a rich tradition of enamel craftsmanship that dates back to the Middle Ages. Artists like Fauré perfected this technique in the 19th and 20th centuries, developing innovative applications of enamel. Pâte-sur-pâte enamel, as seen on this vase, involves the thick application of glass paste onto a metal surface. The object is then repeatedly fired in a kiln, with each layer carefully built up. This process creates a texture and play of colors that is both unique and enduring.

The combination of Fauré’s artistic vision and the technical perfection of the Limoges enameling technique makes this vase a timeless and elegant work of art. It is not only a tribute to nature but also to the rich tradition of French enamel craftsmanship.
