Art Nouveau faience (white earthenware) with underglaze painting.
This large and richly decorated Art Nouveau cachepot was produced by the Rozenburg Pottery Factory in The Hague in 1896, during an early and important period in the development of the factory under the direction of Jurriaan Kok.
The piece is executed in white earthenware (faience) and finely decorated in underglaze painting with a lively composition of fringed water lily (Nymphoides peltata) and floating leaves. The decoration unfolds in a harmonious rhythm of green, blue, and yellow tones, intersected by flowing bands that give the surface a dynamic and distinctly Art Nouveau character.
The object bears the third year mark of 1896, indicating that it was produced between approximately 1 November and 11 December 1896. This precise dating places the cachepot within the period when Rozenburg introduced its first important artistic models and decorative designs, as also presented in the first Rozenburg album of the same year.
A remarkable and early example of Rozenburg faience, demonstrating the factory’s characteristic combination of sculptural form and refined painted decoration.
